Hey! We're here! Our "end" destination and it's just as you'd imagine -- really humid, really hot, really big bugs!
Our kids had a fantastic time at their houses. E-mail and IM addresses came back with them on the bus to keep in touch with their new friends and families and you should have seen some of the spectacular lunches!
Headed off to Stone Mountain -- really a very odd geological formation of granite. The face of the mountain has been carved into three lift figures and their horses. Really spectactular site to see. We walked up to the sky lift and loaded up for a climb up the rock. Everyone pretty much hung on tight for the 2-1/2 minute ride to the moon-like surface on top of Stone Mountain. We were lucky to have the first clear day for over a few weeks, and enjoyed the sun. On the ride back down the Mountain, the other riders in the tram got a performance by Chorale of "We Are...." Sounded great in the confines of the sky tram.
Onto the bus with our lunches and 5 hours later (and 2 quick rest stops) crossed over the bridge onto Hilton Head Island. Margaret's parents furnished some yummy pizzas for our dinner at the Sea Pines Plantation Community Center. Didn't have too much time until we run off to St. Luke's Episcopal Church. We had a nice crowd in an incredible church. Aaron says the pianos get better every time! Beautiful sanctuary with wooden beams and an extremely appreciative audience. Our homestay hosts were happy to run off with our kids and show and share the island with them.
We'll be getting them in the morning and ready for a full day of sun and fun!
Til next time,
SUE
