Day 8 - London

Wednesday, July 29, 2005

GREETINGS FROM LONDON!

We’re here! The excitement of the city is energizing and contagious! Kind of seems like the country bumpkins have made it to the big town!

Believe it or not, sleeping in until 7 a.m. was noticeable and a welcome relief! After breakfast we loaded up the bus, said goodbye to Kent University. We had packed lunches to eat on the bus and arrived in London to sunny skies and warm temp. We met up with our London city guide, Allison. Our first stop was at the Globe Theater where we went into the actual theater to hear a few tidbits about the history and the interaction of the audience and history of the theater. I think most of us will try to see an actual show if we ever are lucky enough to return here! We did get to see the actors running through their warm-up routines that were truly odd. I wonder if Margaret is going to adopt some of their techniques?

Next on our agenda was some “retail therapy” at the Jubilee Market where we all added a bit more to the British economy – what fun! Great selection of tourist stuff and everything else imaginable. Just at the end of our therapy session the skies opened up and a London downpour put on a display. Bus then took us to our hotel, the Pembridge Palace, right in the Hyde Park neighborhood close to some hopping streets with shops and the park is only a couple of blocks away. We were served a lightly seasoned Indian dinner of rice and chicken and we all explored our neighborhood. Lots of fun and we can’t believe the trip is almost over…….

Til next time,
SUE
