2006 Tour - Day One Postcard
Postcard from Sault Sainte Marie, Ontario – Tuesday, June 13, 2006

We made it – survived one complete day.  At this moment, all the birds are back in their nests having left their party rooms for their sleeping rooms.

Trip on the road was extremely uneventful – the best kind!  Our captain Jim was familiar to many of the girls from the tour two summers ago down south.  He’s a steady Eddy and great to have in command.

We had our lunch break just over the Michigan line in Menomonie at the Welcome Center there.  Sweet little log cabin with a few picnic tables right on the way.

Three movies and one spring concert DVD after leaving the Beth lot, we crossed the St. Mary’s River into Ontario.  A cargo ship was going through the Soo Locks as we passed over.  Absolutely no effort getting into Canada and we hope to have the same coming back to the USA, although the bridge lane entering the USA from Ontario was bumper-to-bumper completely backed up……hope there are more on the shift at the Windsor/Detroit line!

We found our Sleep Inn easily, checked in even more easily, unwound for a fast 30 minutes and back into the lobby where we met up, counted off and walked a nice little hike down to the local shopping mall.  Believe it or not – the first stop was the ATM, then the food court, and ONLY ONE STORE!  Then out to the boardwalk along the St. Mary’s River for some fun and games and pictures.  Ask the kids if they remember what bodies of water the locks even out….hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…….my money is not exactly on that fact staying put for the next week.

We will be rising early, so I’m signing off for now.  Great day has passed and more great days to come!  Keep checking the website for updated pics and info.

Til next time,
