POSTCARD FROM BOBCAYGEON, ONTARIO - JUNE 14, 2006
Wow! You know, whenever we adults are together, and I'm writing these
notes, breathing easy, it's night time and we're pooped! But we had
another fantastic day.
The bus was loaded up and we were out of town before 8 a.m. after having
breakfast in the hotel. The first almost hour was spent with the kids
snoozing....such a quiet, peaceful bus! After their snooze, movies came
on as we cruised down rural Ontario highways. At some points, even
looked like Wisconsin countryside. It did seem, however, that whatever
stretch of highway we headed down, there was road construction. On a 2
lane highway to begin with, that means a "STOP" sign holder person has
us wait until the oncoming traffic clears up. The Trans Canada highway
is not exactly what you might imagine......but definitely unique! There
are picnic areas from time to time, and looked like they had some nice
flush facilities. Well, wouldn't you know, the one we picked and pushed
onto before taking our break......it didn't exactly have a
flush............ oh, darn! BUT: We had an incredible view of Lake
Nipissing. Sort of felt like we were in a foreign country - hey wait -
we ARE!
Back onto the coach and movies back on. Now we're having to crunch to
get to our destination and Jim was an incredible beast - kept going and
going until we finally arrived at this sweet, picturesque town of
Bobcaygeon. Running a bit late, we were grateful to see our hosts
flagging us down and directing us to Trinity United Church. Quick photo
in front of the church and into the waiting hall with our supper they
had prepared. So sweet! People were actually lining up in the narthex
with their tickets in hand. Margaret had a chance to warm up the choir
in the Sanctuary and get their surroundings. Next to change, gather
prior to the concert, and then into a crowd of 220 folks from this
fantastic community! What a welcome!
The performance was great, and I fear I'm taking over Jeff Meinholz's
job of flowing tears...... The seniors were spectacular, Chamber swell,
and the entire concert fantastic! Considering we'd been in the car for
almost 11 hours, the kids really lived up to the professional tour
responsibilities. They looked so enthusiastic. Swell with proud,
folks!
A wonderful dessert reception followed where the audience members
chatted up with the kids. Really a fun thing to see from my standpoint
and a great memory for the kids. They were paired up with their hosts
and got their gear off the bus.
Their behavior, performance and attitudes have been fantastic. I
couldn't have asked for a better couple of days, and appreciate their
cooperation and assistance. Thanks!!!
