Day 8 - Postcard from Sandusky, OH

POSTCARD FROM SANDUSKY, OHIO – Tuesday, June 20, 2006

Our last night on the road!  Wow!  Can’t say it went really fast, but also can’t say it was a horribly long, drawn out trip.  All has been very fine, kids really well behaved for the most part, have gotten into the habit of their attendance counting without too much pain, can get on and off the bus lickety split, get into their hotel rooms and checked back out right on time (although our faithful driver, Jim, may disagree with the “on time” definition!).

Ride into Sandusky from Detroit was uneventful, kids talking up their wonderful homestays, enough so that the DVD player didn’t get a workout.  Everyone slathered up with sun screen, got what they needed into their pockets so the purses could be left behind safe and sound on the bus.  We had our tickets in hand and going through the turn styles at Cedar Point by 11 a.m., and the mobs took off like gun shot scattering to the ride they wanted to go on FIRST!  Was a very interesting study in behavior and likes/dislikes and the groupings were not what we normally would see with best buddies – it was more who likes high and dropping rides; who likes spinning and twirling rides; who likes to go high but not spin; who likes to spin and not go high; who likes to do EVERYTHING!!  Our plan was to meet up at 6:30 for dinner at the on property buffet, and they all got there right on time!  Wow!  I would have lost THAT bet!  Didn’t dilly-dally one bit so they could go out – only 2-1/2 hours left to try to scare themselves silly!

OK families:  This theme park is merely a 6 hour drive from home!  Get out the atlas and plan your route.  I suspect everyone will want to bring you here!  (I might add:  It’s worth the trip!)

Now back at the hotel, kids have 10 more minutes left to play in the pool and then into their rooms.  All pooped, and between the sun and chlorine, won’t be hard to finally settle down.

The plan is to leave here by 9:00 tomorrow morning, have a lunch stop and a few potty breaks along the way, and get into Madison at Beth any United Methodist Church around 4:30-5:00.  We will most definitely call from the road to let you know the time of arrival.  If you are not at a number where your kids will know to call, give us a ring any time after 3:00 p.m.:  608-695-3163.  As much as we have loved your kids…..ah, it’s your turn now!

Til we see you TOMORROW,

SUE
