POSTCARD FROM SALT LAKE CITY

Thursday, June 21, 2007

Wow! What a fantastic day we had - most likely I'm thinking fantastic
because we had such a wonderful night!

We started out picking up the kids arrived at First Congregational
Church from the homestays, again filled with stories about seeing the
city of Cheyenne, fun times at their homes, Claire's GREEN hair from the
swimming pool................! I forgot to mention that Laura had
relatives at Cheyenne too - that's 2 for 2! Her cousin was in our
audience which was fun for us to have a connection there. 1st
Congregational sent us on the road with a flat full of donuts and
cinnamon rolls, trayful of chocolate cake veggies, fruit -- they were so
gracious!

Well, we are not so sure about what is actually in Wyoming. We saw an
awful lot of sagebrush, sandy soil, and a lot of nothing. Hmmmmmmmmm
Some snow capped mountain tops were wayyyyy out in the distance, but not
much on I80. Did discover (thank you, Google) that Sinclair Oil has a
refinery in Sinclair, Wyoming which we saw! But we do think that
Sinclair, WY only has Sinclair Oil.

It was a 3+ movie day (the plus comes in because we actually saw the end
of one and the beginning of another which apparently never get counted
on the official count page). We had another brief rest stop
mid-morning, a nice lunch time stop, and a mid-afternoon break. Lunch
time had visitors with us - some adorable prairie dogs, a/k/a rodents!
Before we got off the bus, I had visions of the loving kids trying to
pick up one of those precious critters, so strict instructions were: NO
FEEDING THE DOGS! The afternoon stop was beautiful: Echo Canyon. And
coming from sagebrush land of Wyoming, what a change! It was
gorgeous!!! Pictures are posted (www.wisconsinchildrenschoir.org)

Into Salt Lake City, we headed directly for Christ United Methodist
Church where Barb was waiting at the door for us! There was even a big
sign out front welcoming us and announcing the concert. Stepping into
the building, Larry asks if we'd like a DVD of the concert, because they
have the camera and sound equipment to facilitate this. Uh, yep! We'd
certainly like that! Such a welcome and what a facility they have!
There was time for the kids to warm up in the space and have a fantastic
dinner of spaghetti, salad, rolls......yummy!

There was a nice size audience of about 50 people in a great performing
space with wonderful acoustics. A number of people there have
connections to Wisconsin. It truly is a small world! The concert was
energized and well performed. A few tears seen in the pews!

Off to the homestays for the night!

Til next time,

Sue
