POSTCARD FROM FLAGSTAFF

Greetings from over 7000 feet in elevation!

We left our new friends in Fresno early this morning as we knew today would be one of the longer driving days.  Indeed, it turned out to be a FIVE movie day!

Shortly after leaving Fresno, we got a phone call and discovered we had some contraband underneath the bus:  one of our generous hosts, Danelle, had her laundry bag mistakenly put on our bus with our luggage.  Happily, it’s now on its way back home via UPS!  Sorry about that, Danelle, and I’m afraid it didn’t get washed while in our possession!

600 miles, about 9 hours of driving we arrived in Flagstaff.  We had two brief potty stops.  The second one was just across the Arizona state line and the thermometer on the bus showed 118 degrees!  Standing next to the bus it felt like my legs were singed!  The scenery driving through the Mojave Desert made me think of the cowboys riding through seeing water in the many mirages on the horizon.  While it was completely baron like it was in Wyoming and Nevada, this had a different beauty probably because of the different plant life and the mountains on the horizon.  I couldn’t even really tell we were actually going up in elevation and was surprised to learn we were over 7000 feet.

Flagstaff’s weather was beautiful, 74 degrees and breezy.  Our host organizer, Laura, was there to greet us getting off the bus only slightly tardy.  The homestay hosts were busy getting the potluck preparations underway so the kids rehearsed and then dressed and by then supper was ready.  Another great meal!

The concert was super!   The kids were a bit more tested tonight with the increased elevation, road weariness and it was a bit warm, but they carried it off very well. Margaret was proud indeed!

As always, check out today’s pictures on the website.  Chris Thorn is doing great work keeping everything posted.  Thanks, Chris!  www.wisconsinchildrenschoir.org

Exhausted again tonight -----

Til next time,
